Liverpool Set To Keep "Exceptional" 24 y/o Player

It appears as though Liverpool's Caoimhin Kelleher might not be on the move in the summer transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp admitting he can't see the goalkeeper leaving.

Is Caoimhin Kelleher leaving Liverpool?

The Irishman hasn't played in the Premier League for the club this season but has been called upon previously when needed at Anfield. He played twice in the 2021/22 season for example, conceding two, and also had a further two showings a campaign earlier.

It's in the cup competitions where the player has been relied upon and he's often impressed when given the game time too. The 24-year-old kept a clean sheet in his one FA Cup outing this year for example and played twice in the Reds' League Cup campaign.

With the shot-stopper struggling to play on a regular basis though, it has led to some teams perhaps feeling they can lure Kelleher away from Liverpool this summer, with the Reds at one point looking likely to move him on.

Tottenham are one of the most notable sides to be in the race for his signature, with the goalkeeper seen as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris. The Frenchman is currently 36 years old and it means that, long term, he may not have too many campaigns left under his belt. Brentford and Brighton have also been named as interested parties, with Kelleher himself previously asking to leave Anfield.

However, Klopp has spoken about the interest (via This is Anfield) and revealed that he is keen to keep hold of the Irishman. The manager added that it would take an "extraordinary" offer for him to even consider letting Kelleher leave. Speaking about the shot-stopper, Klopp said:

"Caoimhin Kelleher? He has a contract! You want us to say goodbye just incase? I honestly can’t see Caoimh leaving. It must be an extraordinary offer for me to start thinking [of selling him], I have to say."

Is Caoimhin Kelleher playing at Liverpool?

The 24-year-old may have struggled to get regular minutes at Anfield but it's clear that he can produce the goods when Klopp does decide to utilise him.

His rating in the League Cup on WhoScored was a sensational 7.76 for example, with the player even scooping the Player of the Match award against Derby County. It's led to him now even being called upon for his country, with Kelleher managing a 6.45 rating in the Nations League for the Republic of Ireland.

It's clear that Klopp rates him highly, with the German previously calling the keeper "exceptional", and with this latest report, it is clear that he sees a future for the player at Anfield.

VAR Misses Shocking Moment In 1-1 Liverpool Draw

Referee John Brooks and his VAR team may have made a huge error in the recent Liverpool draw for not sending Tyrone Mings off for a horror tackle on Cody Gakpo.

What’s the latest on Liverpool and VAR?

The Reds were up against Aston Villa this weekend in the Premier League but a draw means their hopes of a top-four finish are only just hanging on by a thread.

The away team took the lead in the first half when Jacob Ramsey hit a sweet volley at the far post to open the scoring and it took until the 89th minute for Liverpool to draw level.

Indeed, playing in his final game at Anfield, club icon Roberto Firmino scored from close range to earn the Reds a point on the day.

However, the outcome of the game could have perhaps been different had referee Brooks reached for a red instead of a yellow earlier on in the match.

Shortly before half time, Mings stretched to win the ball but ended up planting his studs into Gakpo’s chest but avoid major punishment.

Did Mings deserve a red card against Liverpool?

As the images above on Twitter show, the Liverpool man was left with some brutal stud marks on his chest but VAR, somehow, evidently felt it wasn’t enough to upgrade the foul to a red card.

It was reminiscent of Nigel de Jong’s horror tackle on Xabi Alonso in the 2010 World Cup final which also saw the perpetrator avoid a red card – though VAR wasn’t in use back then.

Journalist James Pearce certainly seemed to think it was a foul deserving of more severe punishment. He wrote on Twitter: “Mings very lucky that his challenge on Gakpo isn’t upgraded from a yellow to a red by VAR. Caught Gakpo in the chest with his studs.”

Before adding: “Can’t believe Brooks wasn’t advised to look at the monitor.”

To make things worse, the Reds also had a goal controversially ruled out for offside in the game too and decision that left manager Jurgen Klopp baffled.

Indeed, he told the press (via Liverpoolfcnews): “I asked the referee why the offside goal was offside. He explained it to me. He thinks it isn’t a deliberate action from the defender, I think it is. VAR isn’t sure.”

Spurs: De Zerbi Could Get The Best Out Of Spurs Teen

Tottenham Hotspur's upcoming summer is set to be a thoroughly confusing one, with incomings, player sales and most importantly, a new manager set to be appointed.

Daniel Levy has a task on his hands marrying all these aspects and more into success, but only has himself to blame for the current state of the club that only he can fix.

The 61-year-old chairman has overseen a torrid campaign with the Lilywhites, whilst teams around them strengthen and those below them gain precious ground.

Brighton and Hove Albion are one such example, of an organisation run with such laser-focus that they seem almost destined for success. The mid-season departure of Graham Potter could not topple their form, and with games in hand on all those currently above them, it remains interesting to see exactly where they will finish. The sky really is the limit.

Roberto De Zerbi oversaw such a seamless transition into the Amex, and it almost feels like the Italian has been in the south coast dugout for years now. However, the 43-year-old is yet to even hit a full year in English football.

Despite this, Levy retains a strong interest in his work, and that lack of experience could prove no barrier in choosing him as the successor to Antonio Conte. Given the numerous benefits he has already brought to the Seagulls in such a short space of time, the hope would be that he can replicate this in north London.

What is Roberto De Zerbi's play style?

Preferring to employ a 4-2-3-1 system, his possession-based football often gives way to an aggressive pressing structure when the opportunity permits. Due to this all-action style, very often his teams are seen scoring beautiful goals, as they either pass through the opposition with intricate plays or smother them from higher up the pitch.

Implementing that at Brighton took no time at all given the steady improvement of their playing staff, which he would hope to replicate at Spurs. Given he is renowned as a "football genius", as branded by former Albion winger Andrea Orlandi, this should be more than possible

However, one of his greatest successes across his short tenure in England has to be the unearthing and subsequent management of Evan Ferguson.

Although the 18-year-old had made appearances before his arrival, it seemed that the rest of the country only really began to sit up and take note of the Ireland international this campaign. In just 13 league games this season, the teenage star boasts four goals and two assists, mirroring his boss' seamless transition into the first team.

Should De Zerbi make that switch to north London, there will be hope that the former Shakhtar Donetsk coach could repeat this magic with their academy prospect Jamie Donley.

As another 18-year-old forward with the world seemingly at his feet, the young N17 marksman had scored five and assisted four in just six U18s Premier League games. This allowed him to make the step up to U21s football, where he would then record a further five goal contributions in the Premier League 2, via Transfermarkt.

Such form had even led journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke to brand him: "the best young player they’ve got."

With inspiring praise and blistering form to boot, and the reports continuing to link De Zerbi with the north London vacancy, it seems the stars are aligning for a potential breakout year for Donley in the same vein as Ferguson's.

O'Keefe pleased to be back in action after calf injury

Australia left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe, who is set to return from a lengthy injury layoff in the Tests in Sri Lanka later this month, has said a stint at the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai helped him get warmed up for the series. O’Keefe, who last turned out for Australia in a Test against West Indies in Sydney in January, had been nursing a calf injury. He trained with 16 other Australians in Chennai for a week from July 4, including others from the squad for the Sri Lanka series: Joe Burns, Peter Nevill and Jackson Bird.”It was a really good opportunity to – a lot of the main guys had already been in the West Indies and had sort of acclimatised being able to play on slow wickets [in the Caribbean]. So for myself, Jackson Bird, Peter Nevill and Joe Burns, it was a really good opportunity to acclimatise and get used to what will probably be similar conditions in Sri Lanka,” O’Keefe said after the Australia players arrived in Sri Lanka.O’Keefe has not played competitive cricket since February, when he represented New South Wales against Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield. Training in Chennai offered him a chance to get relatively match fit, he said. “We were fortunate enough to be able to train with the MRF fast bowlers. We were also able to get a game in. For myself, I haven’t played for about four months, so it was great to be able to get 90 overs in these conditions and bowl 20 overs in a game scenario. It’s a really invaluable experience which puts me in a good position to turn up [in Sri Lanka] and hit the ground running.”We’ve got a really good, extended, pre-season, pre-tour before we play our first game, so I feel like I’m in a pretty good position, like the other guys are as well. I missed the end of the Shield season. I had plenty of time to get fit and go away from the game, but now I’m hungry and ready to play.”Australia have over two weeks before the first Test starts in Pallekele on July 26, which gives them ample time to familiarise themselves with the conditions. O’Keefe acknowledged two spinners could come into play in these conditions, and said he was happy to bowl alongside Australia’s first-choice Test spinner Nathan Lyon.”Steve Smith, the captain, always talks about being adaptable and assessing conditions as quickly as possible. I guess in these conditions, they’re going to spin a little bit more than at home, but that poses a whole different challenge in itself: how quickly you bowl, what kind of shape you put in the ball […] We’ve got 16 days before the first game, so we’ve got plenty of time to try a few things out, get yourself in a good place. And look, if there’s a need for two spinners, myself and Gazza [Nathan Lyon] are here, and I’ll be ready to go.”

Arsenal To Refuse To Shell Out Massive Fee For £60k p/w Ace

Arsenal won't be drawn into paying over the odds for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

What's the latest transfer news involving Declan Rice?

As per The Daily Mail, West Ham United would be open to the possibility of parting ways with Rice if a 'suitable' offer was to arrive in the summer for the midfielder.

Rice is valued at around £100 million by the Hammers according to the report; however, the 24-year-old 'is ready to leave to compete for the biggest trophies' amid interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Football Insider claim that West Ham United will not entertain any part-exchange deal involving another player being used as a makeweight in negotiations.

The outlet also state that David Moyes has began to scope out potential reinforcements in the event that does leave the club, with Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow believed to have been 'extensively scouted' by chiefs at the London Stadium.

Capology understand that Rice earns around £60,000 per week on the books of West Ham United on a contract that runs until June 2024; however, there is an option in his deal for a year extension that his current employers will likely activate.

Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Jones believes that Arsenal will stand firm in their valuation of Rice and won't want to pay a ridiculously large fee to land the England international.

Jones told FFC when quizzed about how much Arsenal would pay for Rice: "If you're having to spend £100 million, I don't believe that Arsenal would end up spending £100 million on Rice. I don't think they would cave in there."

Would Declan Rice be a good signing for Arsenal?

Rice is one of the finest midfield players the Premier League has to offer and would represent an eye-catching piece of business from the Gunners if they were able to entice him to north London this summer.

In 2022/23, the 24-year-old has made 44 appearances across all competitions for West Ham United, registering four goals and four assists, as per Transfermarkt.

declan-rice-west-ham-united-david-moyes-transfer-liverpool-jurgen-klopp-premier-league

WhoScored also notes that Rice has achieved an average match rating of 7.05/10 for his exploits on the field, making him the Hammers' most consistent performer overall this term.

Driving forward from the middle of the park with the ball is one of his greatest strengths, leading the Englishman to successfully perform 103 shot-creating actions this campaign, as per FBRef.

Looking ahead, Arsenal will hope they can land Rice ahead of their rivals for his signature to add another dimension to their midfield in 2023/24.

Anderson apologises to umpires for behaviour

James Anderson has apologised to both umpires for behaviour he admits was ‘petulant’ and ‘unacceptable’ on the second day of the third Investec Test at Edgbaston

George Dobell at Edgbaston04-Aug-2016James Anderson has apologised to both umpires for behaviour he admits was “petulant” and “unacceptable” on the second day of the third Investec Test at Edgbaston.Anderson, England’s record wicket-taker, clashed with umpire Bruce Oxenford after he was warned about running on the pitch after delivering the ball. Anderson received two official warnings meaning that, if he encroaches on the area again during Pakistan’s first innings, the umpires can withdraw him from the attack for the rest of the innings. It was a frustrating day for Anderson. As well as struggling to gain much assistance from a sluggish Edgbaston surface, he saw Joe Root, at second slip, put down Azhar Ali off his bowling when he had scored 38. Azhar went on to make a century as Pakistan reached stumps just 40 runs behind with seven wickets in hand. When Oxenford, who had been prompted to warn Anderson by the intervention of the TV umpire Kumar Dharmasena, repeatedly asked him to move away from the pitch in the immediate aftermath of delivery, Anderson appeared to remonstrate angrily. But, having seen a replay of himself remonstrating with Oxenford, Anderson accepted that such factors were no excuse and concluded that he had over-stepped the mark and took the decision to apologise.”It was a frustrating day,” Anderson said. “I had a bad half-hour where I let things get to me. I’ve apologised to both umpires as my behaviour wasn’t acceptable. It was a bit petulant.”I wasn’t convinced that I had [run on the pitch], but Bruce had the third or fourth umpire in his ear telling him I was.”Having seen my reactions on TV, it doesn’t look great when I’m pointing at the pitch. I don’t necessarily think it was what I said, it was just the way I behaved. I had a bad half-hour, I’ve apologised and hopefully that will be the end of it.”It is not the first time Anderson has succumbed to bouts of petulance. He was, for a long time, a persistent sledger of opposition batsmen and infamously clashed with Ravindra Jadeja during the 2014 Trent Bridge Test. Since that incident, however, he has appeared to rein in that side of his character but admitted he struggles to balance the “competitive edge” he feels he requires to succeed at this level with the standards of behaviour expected of an international player.”That competitive edge has helped me throughout my career,” Anderson said. “I know there are times I can get close to that line. I try to control it, but I don’t want to lose that competitive edge. It’s a balancing act.”The dropped catch probably added to the frustration, but you have to try and deal with things like that. There are going to be times when catches go down. There are going to be times when the opposition plays well, as they did today. They played really well.”The pitch has lost some pace. It didn’t have the zip it had on the first day. But we did a good job. We created chances and if that catch had stuck, who knows what might have happened. There was some good bowling and some average batting that got us into this situation.”Today I thought we bowled reasonably well. But we could have bowled slightly better. We had chances and we didn’t take them. At this level you get punished if you don’t take your chances.”Anderson will hope that his apology will appease the officials. But it will be no surprise if match referee Richie Richardson cites him for dissent.

Newcastle United Team News: "Superb" Player Ruled Out Vs BHAFC

Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff “won’t be involved” in the Premier League game vs Brighton and Hove Albion tonight, according to Eddie Howe.

What's the latest injury news on Sean Longstaff?

The Magpies academy graduate was involved in a heavy challenge during the 4-1 win against Everton last month which saw him sustain a foot injury and he therefore hasn’t featured since, missing the three matches against Southampton, Arsenal and Leeds United.

Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie confirmed that the 25-year-old was set to go for a follow-up scan to further assess the extent of his problem, and whilst ChronicleLive soon after revealed that he had suffered no broken bones, not to mention that the manager admitted last week that fans "could see him as early as next week if he improves quickly", he still isn’t ready to stage his comeback to the first-team.

Speaking during Wednesday’s pre-match press conference, Howe confirmed that Longstaff is ruled out of this evening’s fixture vs Brighton, whilst also providing an update on the fitness of Jacob Murphy. As quoted by Newcastle’s official website, he said:

“I think we’re quite clear on the injury but it’s just how long it takes to heal. He made good progress yesterday so let’s see how he feels today but he won’t be involved for this game. Jacob is probably the one doubt we’ll have for the game."

Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.

Will Longstaff's absence be a blow for Newcastle?

After Brighton, Newcastle only have two games of the 2022/23 season remaining against Leicester City and Chelsea, so Howe will be hoping to have Longstaff back at his disposal before the conclusion of the current campaign, but in the short-term, it’s definitely a blow for the central midfielder to be ruled out once again.

The St. James’ Park star, who pockets £50k-per-week, has posted seven goal contributions (four assists and three goals) across all competitions this season and has been a regular feature of the first-team having made 27 starts in the top-flight, so he’s clearly viewed as an important member of the squad.

The Magpies’ “superb” dominator, as once lauded by journalist Josh Bunting, also offers wonderful versatility with his ability to operate in five various positions over the pitch, including four in the midfield and even as a second striker, so the sooner he returns to action in the northeast to help try and nail down a place in the Champions League, the better as far as the manager is concerned.

'My role will differ with team combination' – Marsh

Mitchell Marsh has said he is prepared to tailor his role to the team’s needs once the Tests against Sri Lanka begin, depending on the team combination: four pacers and one spinner, or three pacers and two spinners

Warner to miss tour match

David Warner has been ruled out of Australia’s tour match against a Sri Lanka XI starting in Colombo on Monday, but the Australians remain confident he will be fit for the first Test. Warner suffered a broken finger during the recent one-day tri-series in the West Indies.
Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will also sit out of the match.
Australia XI Shaun Marsh, Joe Burns, Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith, Adam Voges, Mitchell Marsh, Peter Nevill, Mitchell Starc, Steve O’Keefe, Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird, Nathan Coulter-Nile (12th man to be named).

Australia seam-bowling allrounder Mitchell Marsh has said he is prepared to tailor his role to the team’s needs once the Tests against Sri Lanka begin. Depending on the team combination – four pacers and one spinner, or three pacers and two spinners – he said his job would change, but he was ready to adapt accordingly.”I think depending on the outlook of the team and whether they bowl two spinners or three quicks and me, my role will differ,” Marsh said in Colombo, on the eve of Australia’s three-day tour match against a Sri Lankan XI. “But for me it’s about just playing the conditions, I will be attacking the stumps as much as I can, with fields that allow me to bowl like that.”I think if we’ve got two spinners I’ll probably bowl a bit more with the newer ball being the third seamer. It’s always nice in these conditions to bowl when the ball’s a little bit harder and potentially swinging a little bit, but I don’t really mind, I’ll just bowl wherever the skipper needs me to bowl. Whatever the selectors go with, I’ll just prepare as best I can.”The Tests begin on July 26 in Pallekele, and, aside from the official tour game, Australia have been tuning up with intra-squad matches. Marsh, who is likely to slot in at No. 6 with the bat, said he expected both spin and reverse swing to play a big role in Sri Lankan conditions, and he will be training to face up to both. All the batsmen in the squad, he said, were preparing to face stiff challenges, especially when new at the crease.”That’s something we’ve spoken about as a batting group already, just being as sharp as we can to start our innings. I think conditions, whether it is spinning or whether it is reverse swing, it’s always going to come into it massively when we’re batting.”I’ll be preparing as best I can over the coming week for the different conditions, and I think the start of the innings here is really important.”

West Ham Backed To Sign £150k-A-Week Midfielder

Pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor thinks West Ham could sign Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips during the summer transfer window if they sell Declan Rice.

Has Phillips had a good season?

The 27-year-old moved to City from Leeds United last year in what looked like an exciting move for him during the peak of his career. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out for him, however, with injuries hampering his progress and a lack of minutes coming his way.

Phillips has only started one Premier League game in the whole of 2022/23, with only another nine appearances in the competition from the substitutes' bench, and it is hard to see him breaking into the team regularly moving forward.

For that reason, the £150,000-a-week England international could move on at the end of the season, with West Ham one of the clubs who have been linked with a move for him.

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Could West Ham snap up Phillips?

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor talked up West Ham's chances of signing Phillips in the summer window:

"Rodri isn’t in his 30s, he’s not going anywhere. He’s that good – Pep plays him in every game. Whether it’s a big FA Cup game, Carabao Cup game, or whatever. There have even been games where Rodri hasn’t started, but Gundogan slots into that position.

"Pep fits other players in before Kalvin Phillips. If I’m Phillips and I want to play in the European Championships next summer, I’m leaving in this transfer window. Go and play somewhere where you are the first name on the team sheet. A Crystal Palace, or a West Ham. If West Ham lose Declan Rice, they could get him in.

"You want to play football as a player, and he hasn’t done that this season. These are his peak years, and he needs to be playing football."

Phillips could be an excellent signing by West Ham this summer, coming in as a direct replacement for Declan Rice, who he knows so well after partnering him in England's midfield throughout Euro 2020. Granted, this season has been a disappointing one for him, but given his displays for Leeds persuaded Pep Guardiola to make a move for him, there is every reason he can be a key man for another Premier League side – as long as he remains fit.

The fact that Spain and Barcelona legend Xavi once hailed both Phillips and Rice as "superb" speaks volumes, and the former could come in and provide tackling tenacity and technical quality in the middle of the park for the Hammers, having averaged three tackles per game in the EFL Cup this season, as well as a 92.1% pass completion rate in the Premier League.

Rangers Eye Move For "Talented" 22 y/o

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in bringing Maccabi Tel Aviv midfielder Parfait Guiagon to Ibrox.

What’s the latest Rangers transfer news?

Michael Beale has made a start on his transfer business ahead of his first season in charge in regards to both incoming and outgoings.

The club recently confirmed that Scott Arfield, Filip Helander, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor and Alfredo Morelos will all leave the club when their contracts expire.

Meanwhile, the Gers also officially confirmed a move for attacking midfielder Kieran Dowell, who has agreed a three-year deal and will join on a free transfer from Norwich City.

However, it looks as if Dowell may not be the only attacking midfielder through the door this summer, with links emerging over a move for Guiagon.

According to Israeli outlet One, Rangers have been keeping a close eye on Guiagon throughout the current season. He is now wanted by those at Ibrox, with Maccabi Tel Aviv open to offers ahead of a possible transfer.

Glasgow Rangers manager Michael Beale.

Who is Parfait Guiagon?

Guiagon is 22 years of age and has been on the books with Maccabi Tel Aviv since 2020. Primarily an attacking midfielder who can also play on the left wing, Guiagon has been out on loan with Beitar Tel Aviv Bat Yam and Maccabi Netanya in previous seasons.

The attacker has made 100 senior appearances at club level, 40 of which have come with Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he has completed 110 successful dribbles throughout the season from 189 attempts.

Guiagon appears to be at the top of his game with a €1.2m career-high Transfermarkt valuation and was hailed as a “talented” player by Maccabi’s Head of Football Department Barak Itzhaki after he signed a three-year deal last year.

“Parfait is a young talented player who joined the Club thanks to the good work of the scouting department.”

It looks as if a move to Rangers for the Ivorian will be one to keep an eye on over the coming months, and by the looks of it, it could be an extremely busy summer for Beale and co in the market, with up to 10 new players through the door.
