Rangers Boosted In Pursuit Of 24-Year-Old This Summer

Rangers' move for Los Angeles FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes is "starting to progress", according to an update from transfer expert Dean Jones.

Is Cifuentes thriving in the MLS?

The 24-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Ibrox this summer, as the Gers look to make significant inroads in the transfer market. He has enjoyed a good spell in the MLS with Los Angeles, making 111 appearances in total since arriving from Universidad Catolica in 2020, and chipping in with 14 goals and 19 assists.

Cifuentes has also won 15 caps for Ecuador, making two substitute appearances at the 2022 World Cup, and he is clearly someone who Rangers believe could be a shrewd addition to their midfield. It could be that a move to Europe appeals to the player himself, given the step up in quality, and his current deal expires in December of this year, means Los Angeles could be willing part ways and receive a fee in the summer.

Could Rangers be set to sign Cifuentes?

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones claimed that talks over a move for Cifuentes are progressing well, suggesting that other deals are also being worked on:

"We're starting to hear quite a few rumours about transfer deals that are starting to progress. They're linked with José Cifuentes from MLS, and deals like that one starting to progress just make me feel like there are a few of the old faces that aren't going to be around for much longer."

Cifuentes could be an ideal summer signing for Rangers, at a time when Michael Beale will be aware that the gap on Celtic needs to close as soon as possible. Granted, they have still had a decent season overall, but silverware has evaded them, which has to be the benchmark every year.

The Ecuadorian could add a mixture of quality and bite to the Gers' midfield, having registered two assists and averaged 1.7 tackles per game in the MLS this season, and at 24, he is at a brilliant age to come in and develop as a player, enjoying his peak years into his mid to late 20s.

It certainly feels as though a move is likely at this point, and as Jones alludes to, this could hopefully be the start of an influx of signings in the summer transfer window, with fellow midifelder Kieran Dowell already acquired from Norwich City earlier this week.

Manchester United "Pushing" To Sign "Exceptional" £43m Star

Manchester United are "pushing" to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.

What's the latest Man United transfer news?

Plettenberg has recently confirmed that Man United are "monitoring" Leon Goretzka's situation at Bayern Munich, ahead of a potential summer swoop, however the midfielder has made it clear that he wants to stay with the German club.

As such, the Red Devils may continue to pursue other targets, including Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat, who they have recently shown a "serious" interest in, and Mount, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting he is "keen" to move to Old Trafford.

Journalist James Ducker recently claimed that United are set to make a £50m bid for the 24-year-old, with the Blues set to demand even more, however a more recent update indicates that a deal could be done for cheaper.

Taking to Twitter, Plettenberg confirmed that Erik ten Hag has set his sights on the Englishman, while he also offered some clarity on the price Man United can expect to pay.

The Sky Sports reporter said: "Been told MUFC is pushing a lot! Ten Hag and the bosses share the same opinion about him: They definitely want him! Within the club all are convinced of him.

"Understand he will decide between ManUtd or Liverpool. Price valuation at this stage: €45-50m with bonuses included."

Will Man United sign Mason Mount?

The Red Devils are set to do battle with their bitter rivals for the England international, and one potential advantage they have is that Champions League football is on offer at Old Trafford next season, while Liverpool had to settle for the Europa League.

As such, a move to Man United is surely a very attractive proposition for the Chelsea star, and there is evidence he would be a quality addition to the squad, particularly if he is available for just €45m – €50m (£38m – £43m).

Hailed as "exceptional" by former Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel, the maestro is very astute defensively for an advanced midfielder, ranking in the 87th percentile for tackles completed per 90 over the past year.

While the midfielder's form dipped in the Premier League last season, scoring just three goals, he has previously proven himself as a real threat on the front foot, amassing more goal contributions than any other Chelsea player in the 2021-22 campaign.

Mount would be a solid addition to Ten Hag's squad, and it is promising news that he could be available for less than previous reports suggested.

Rangers In Talks For £5m "Awkward To Play Against" Striker

Glasgow Rangers are in talks regarding a summer swoop to bring Cyriel Dessers to the Scottish Premiership, according to reports.

Who is Cyriel Dessers?

The Nigeria international is a striker who currently plays his football for Cremonese having moved there from KRC Genk last summer, and during his debut season at the Giovanni Zini Stadium, he clocked up a total of 29 appearances under Davide Ballardini.

The Scottish Daily Mail (via Ibrox News) first credited Michael Beale with an interest in the 28-year-old and revealed that he was one of the names “on a list” of targets being considered for the upcoming window, and it wasn’t long before the boss made his opening move.

The Daily Record earlier this month reported that the Light Blues had submitted a seven-figure bid for the Serie B forward after seeing their initial offer turned down which resulted in the two parties getting locked in talks, though it would appear that there has now been a successful breakthrough in negotiations.

Are Rangers signing Dessers?

According to Football Insider, Rangers are "pursuing" a move for Dessers with talks firmly "underway" ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. The Cremonese striker has been a target north of the border for "some time" and it's stated that a fee of £5m "could be enough" to get a deal over the line this summer.

The Italian outfit are looking to "trim costs" following their recent relegation so are resigned to selling some of their prized assets, one of those being the attacker who could well be on his way to Glasgow.

Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers.

Rangers have confirmed that Alfredo Morelos has left the club upon the expiration of his contract so Beale will need a natural centre-forward to replace him, and having been described as someone who is “awkward to play against” because of his physical strength by journalist Josh Bunting, Dessers could be the perfect successor.

The Stirr Associates client, who has the versatility to operate everywhere across the frontline, posted 13 goal contributions (ten goals and three assists) from 32 appearances in all competitions last season so was prolific in the final third, but he also posed a threat when he wasn’t on the scoresheet.

Dessers ranked in the 92nd percentile for number of attacking touches in the opposition’s penalty area and recorded 49 shots over the course of the term which was the second-highest total throughout his squad, as per FBRef, so should he sign on the dotted line, it would be a massive coup for Beale.

3 West Ham Fans Sing Brilliant Song For Stars Ahead Of Final

Three young West Ham United fans have serenaded Declan Rice, Ben Johnson, Flynn Downes, Aaron Cresswell, Danny Ings and Jarrod Bowen ahead of their Europa Conference League final.

When is the Europa Conference League final?

The Hammers will be playing in their first European final since the European Cup Winners’ Cup back in 1976, and they’ve not actually lifted a major trophy in 43 years when they won the FA Cup.

Understandably then, fans are pretty excited with their team set to take on Italian side Fiorentina in Prague on June 7 – next Wednesday (8pm UK time).

In preparation for the hugely important fixture, David Moyes and co have been off in Europe for a three-day training camp in southern Portugal.

Beyond the obvious hard work they’ll no doubt be putting in, it seems they’ve found the time to have some fun along the way too. For instance, some players were spotted chanting and messing around at a local water park.

On top of that, footage has now been circulated on Twitter showing a number of senior players relaxing at a bar.

While the likes of Rice, Bowen and the others sit at the back of the pub garden, a few young Irons take to the stage to deliver a brilliant rendition of the club’s famous anthem I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles” – also more simply known as “Bubbles”.

The players all offer a warm round of applause and it seems the efforts of the youngsters were also appreciated online. Indeed, here are some of the best reactions on Twitter…

Some fans even got emotional!

Gareth Southgate Warns Jack Grealish Over Man City Partying

England manager Gareth Southgate has warned Jack Grealish over his antics during the Manchester City celebrations after winning the treble.

What did Gareth Southgate say about Jack Grealish?

The winger has made plenty of headlines over the past week or so as he's widely enjoyed letting off some steam after Pep Guardiola and his team secured the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup over the course of the past season.

For instance, he was even spotted on camera drunkenly begging City teammate Bernardo Silva not to leave in the summer, while more footage has seen him ambling around Manchester, often with Champagne in hand.

Despite all this, Grealish's season isn't tenchially over as he's part of the England squad which will play Euro 2024 qualifiers over the next few days – first against Malta, and then North Macedonia.

With this in mind, manager Southgate has been talking to the press about the player's off-field antics, suggesting that he best not cross the line.

He told the press (via TalkSport): "There is a line but in our head we weren't thinking of including the City players for this game.

"I have spoken with the players. We have talked about where the focus needs to be, where we need them to be and acknowledged what they have experienced and that's for me to manage.

"A few of our players would be teetotal. What is different is that everyone posts everything [on social media]. I wouldn't have liked a few of my nights out to be posted publicly. My generation would have a lot more problems."

Will Grealish play for England against Malta?

It's nice to see that Southgate at least understanding Grealish's behaviour and not coming down too hard on him – admitting that his on genertation would have been worse. Although, he did also suggest that none of the City players will featute against Malta.

And for the most part, it seems most of the footballing community has been able to enjoy the Man City man living it up, even if he has looked a bit worse for wear at times.

Man City's Jack Grealish

Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor explained on TalkSport why the former Aston Villa captain has every right to let off a little steam.

He said: “You’ve done the work, played in multiple games this season, had the sleepless nights after games – people don’t see that part of it where you’re shattered, you’re dehydrated, you can’t eat after games, people don’t see the side of footballers where they’re putting the work in and how difficult it is to be a professional footballer.

“They’ve done and now it’s time to celebrate. The celebrations are on hold for England duty and they’ll continue after England duty because he’ll have more time off and it’s deserved.

“I just see a lad who is living the dream. He’s won the treble and he’s celebrating as he should do.”

Cape Cobras selector Alan Dawson resigns

Former South African medium-pacer Alan Dawson has resigned from his post as the Cape Cobras’ selection convener with immediate effect. Dawson said that the off-field situation at the Cobras had made his position untenable. The situation he referred to was the increasing tension between players and management that originated after 14 contracted players filed a formal grievance against head coach Paul Adams, and then persisted with their call that he be removed after a board decision was made to keep him on.”I feel like no matter what team I select, it’s not going to make a difference. I don’t feel like I can make a contribution,” Dawson told . “I used the saying yesterday to Nabeal Dien [the Cobras’ chief executive] that I feel like an Elastoplaster on a boil, and that no matter what the plaster does, it still won’t cure the boil. It has to be cured from the inside. The time has come to make proper cricket calls. I can’t work in that environment.”I’ve been involved for about two to three months and I’ve tried to find solutions and to ascertain where the real problem lies. I sought counsel from all over, current players, ex-players, administrators, selectors. Before I started I was told there were a few little issues between the players and the coach, but that was a lie.”After four games apiece this season in the Sunfoil Series, the Cobras currently sit at the bottom of the points table, the only team yet to record a win with three losses and a draw. Adding to their troubles, their captain, Omphile Ramela, has been suspended for their next match for breaching CSA’s code of conduct during their loss to the Knights.Dawson also stated his support for Adams. “The worst thing about all of this is, is that they are doing Paul an injustice. Paul is my mate, and it’s tough for me to see him go through this thing.”

DDCA sacks Wassan, Chopra, Maninder from selection roles

The Delhi & District Cricket Association’s (DDCA) sports committee has decided to sack former India players Atul Wassan and Nikhil Chopra from the state’s senior selection panel, while removing Maninder Singh from the junior selection panel. The sports committee included national selector Sarandeep Singh in the panel citing the general convention that national selectors are always made chairman of state selection committee, as it had been the case with Madan Lal, Kirti Azad and Chetan Chauhan to name a few.It also named former legspinner Rakesh Shukla in the panel, but this could be in violation of the norms of the BCCI, which had set an age-cap of 60 for being eligible for the role. Shukla is currently 68.In place of Maninder Singh, the committee named former wicketkeeper-batsman Vinay Kumar. There could be far-reaching legal implications of this decision, as Chopra and Wassan were appointed by a panel selected by Justice Mukul Mudgal, who is the Delhi High Court-appointed observer. Those in know of the legal ramifications feel that this could be a case of contempt of court by the sports committee, which has been sidelined since Mudgal started overseeing DDCA matters.A press release issued by the sports committee’s convenor, Vinod Tihara, stated the decision was taken “in the wake of the persistent complaints being received by the DDCA management regarding the alleged commercial engagements of three selectors namely: Maninder Singh, Atul Wassan and Nikhil Chopra.”Wassan, Chopra and Maninder all have media contracts, which the sports committee claimed was a case of conflict of interest. When Chopra’s comments were sought, he said: “This is news to me. I have been appointed by a committee that was formed by Delhi High Court-appointed observer Justice Mukul Mudgal. And what conflict of interest are they talking about? These are some vested interests at work.”When Tihara was asked if this decision amounted to contempt of court or trying to overrule the High Court-appointed observer, he told PTI: “I don’t think question of contempt arises as Justice Mudgal is an observer and not an administrator. As far as Shukla’s age and appointment is concerned, we will check if this violates the norms set by BCCI.”Asked if Delhi coach KP Bhaskar would also be removed as he was also appointed by the panel set by Mudgal, Tihara said: “No we are not going to remove Bhaskar as it would seem like having a vindictive attitude. We heard some complaints about some alleged misbehaviour with the boys. After an internal inquiry we found out that nothing of that sort has happened. Also he does not have any case of conflict of interest.”
