Ipswich Town want to sign £200k-p/w ace in January with same agent as Delap

Ipswich Town are still interested in signing a £200,000-a-week player in January and he now wants to leave his current club.

Ipswich Town still searching for first Premier League win

The Tractor Boys and Kieran McKenna are still searching for their first Premier League win of the 2024/25 season, although they have drawn more games than they have lost after winning back-to-back promotions in recent years.

Points have been picked up against Aston Villa, Southampton, Brighton and Fulham whereas Ipswich have fallen to defeat against Liverpool, Manchester City and West Ham. McKenna’s side find themselves a point above the drop zone after seven games, with a number of summer signings still settling into life at Portman Road.

One player who has impressed in recent weeks is forward Liam Delap, who netted his first goal for the club against Fulham, a brace against Aston Villa and another in the loss to West Ham before the international break.

He has arguably been the signing of the summer for Ipswich from Manchester City, with McKenna praising Delap’s start to life at Portman Road. “Liam has had a very good start. He is a young striker who has had three loans in the Championship and he is still finding his way in the game.

“His body has developed a lot over the last 12 months, which I think is important for a forward player playing in the physicality of the Premier League and even in the Championship. He is developing well.

McKenna added: “For 21 years of age, the start he has had in the Premier League is really promising. But it is a handful of games and he knows there is still a long road ahead of him and lots of things to still improve on. He has made some really good first strides though.”

Now, it looks as if Ipswich Town are interested in a player who shares the same agency as Delap.

Ipswich Town still keen on signing Ben Chilwell after Chelsea update

Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell was loosely linked with a move to Portman Road in 2025 last month, and a new update has been shared by journalist Simon Phillips, with the Tractor Boys once again mentioned.

He has said that Chilwell now wants out of Chelsea with Ipswich Town one of the most interested sides in a January deal alongside a number of other Premier League clubs and teams in Spain and Italy.

“Ben Chilwell now wants out because he wants to play football and save his international career, and Chelsea also want him gone.

“Clubs are interested in Chilwell still, but at the moment there has been no serious approaches. However, SPTC sources have heard that Fulham, Crystal Palace, Ipswich, and Manchester United are the most interested clubs from the Premier League.

“Chilwell has also had interest and agent approaches from clubs in La Liga and Serie A. Chelsea are encouraging clubs to come forward for Chilwell by making them aware of his availability. They have spoken to a number of clubs for January already.”

The left-back, on £200,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge, shares the same agent as Delap, Kalvin Phillips, Conor Chaplin, Harry Clarke and Wes Burns, so a move could be one to watch over the coming months.

Tim Murtagh named as Middlesex club captain after contract extension

Veteran will remain with county at least until end of 2022, and age of 41

ESPNcricinfo staff10-Nov-2021Tim Murtagh has been named as Middlesex’s club captain for the 2022 season, after signing a one-year contract extension which will see him remain at Lord’s until after his 41st birthday.Murtagh, who joined Middlesex from Surrey in 2007, has claimed 783 first-class wickets for the club, including 40 or more in 12 different seasons. He will resume the role in which he stood in for Peter Handscomb for the final five matches of the 2021 County Championship campaign.Murtagh’s appointment is the second major announcement from Middlesex since they parted company with former head coach Stuart Law last month. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Mark Ramprakash would be rejoining the club at which he played the first half of his career, as a batting consultant.”I’m obviously delighted to have extended my association with this great club for another season,” Murtagh said. “It has become a huge part of my life since the move across the river.”Having finished the season on a high last year I’m already excited about the challenge that the 2022 season holds with this group of players.”I’m honoured to have been asked to take on extra responsibility with the club captaincy and look forward to aiding Pete Handscomb as much as I can on the field next year.”Middlesex’s interim head coach, Alan Coleman, added: “We are delighted that Murts has agreed to extend his contract, as well as take on this additional leadership responsibility.”He is without doubt one of Middlesex’s cricketing greats, and its fantastic news that he’ll be continuing to run in for us from the Nursery End for at least the next year.”His influence on the rest of the squad cannot be underestimated, and alongside his wickets I’m certain he’ll continue to mentor our younger bowlers as they make their way in the game.”Middlesex endured a disappointing campaign in 2021, finishing the season in Division Three after a poor group stage notable for frequent batting collapses. However, Murtagh led the side to victory over Leicestershire in his first match in charge in July, and then oversaw three consecutive victories against Derbyshire, Sussex and Worcestershire. As club captain, he will once again take charge of the Championship side if Handscomb’s arrival from Australia is delayed by his Sheffield Shield involvement with Victoria.

Tuchel really liked him: Chelsea have already sold Palmer’s dream teammate

We are finally coming to the end of the international break, with Chelsea set to face off against Liverpool this Sunday. The two Premier League meetings between the sides last season ended in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, and then a 4-1 loss at Anfield.

Chelsea have not beaten Liverpool in any competition since 2021, when they won 1-0 at Anfield under Thomas Tuchel. However, both sides have undergone change this summer, with new managers taking the reins, and new styles being implemented.

Liverpool currently sit first in the league after seven games played, having won six times, and lost once. They have averaged 60.3% possession, the third highest in the division, have scored 13 goals, and have only conceded twice.

Meanwhile, Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea sit fourth in the Premier League, having won four, drawn two, and lost one. They have averaged 55.7% possession, the sixth highest in the division, have scored 16 goals, and have shipped eight.

The Blues will need their star man in the mood to break down Liverpool’s strong defensive unit this weekend, as their main source for goals is, of course, Cole Palmer, who has made nine appearances so far this season, scoring six goals and providing five assists.

Cole Palmer's meteoric rise

The 22-year-old came through Manchester City’s academy, playing 64 times for various age groups (U18 & U21), scoring 42 goals and providing 19 assists at that level. He then went on to make 41 appearances for the senior side, scoring six goals and providing two assists.

Cole Palmer

But at the start of the 2023/24 campaign, is where it got interesting as Palmer revealed in an interview that he never intended to leave City. Palmer stated he “wanted to go on loan” but they didn’t allow it, which led to his eventual sale to Chelsea that summer for a fee of around £40m plus £2.5m add-ons.

In his first season at the Bridge, Palmer produced an outstanding campaign, making 45 appearances, scoring 25 goals, and providing 15 assists. His excellent form then led to him winning the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season, Chelsea’s Player of the Season, and England Men’s Player of the Year.

The England international has started this season in the same rich vein of form, taking his Chelsea total now to 54 games played, 31 goals scored, and 20 assists.

Many were worried Maresca’s more tactically rigid system would limit Palmer’s creativity, but instead, it has further enhanced it, and the challenge now will be to continue to impose himself in the same way on games and lead Chelsea to major honours, with that first step being qualification to the Champions League.

But Chelsea may have gotten rid of a perfect player to help Palmer, someone who could have helped take him to the next level, and that man was sold in 2023 by the club.

Kai Havertz's numbers after leaving Chelsea

In the same summer Chelsea signed Palmer, they also sold Kai Havertz to Arsenal for a fee of around £65m. In his time for the Blues, the German made 139 appearances, scoring 32 times and supplying 12 assists.

Much of the issue surrounding Havertz’s time at Chelsea was the inability to find him a consistent role in the team. Under different managers, the German was used in different ways, playing as an attacking midfielder, as a striker, and as a winger at times.

Of course, there was still plenty of success for Havertz at the club, scoring the only goal in the Champions League final to win the game 1-0 and secure Chelsea’s second major European title, which will always remain a huge part of their history.

The 25-year-old has rediscovered himself at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, making 61 appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing eight assists.

Arteta seems to have moulded him into the perfect number nine, with the ability to aid the press, hold up the ball, link play, and attack the box.

Tuchel once compared Havertz to Dennis Bergkamp, stating he can play in the “half positions” dropping into link play, and playing “free” from the number nine position in order to create overloads on one side, to then arrive in the box.

And you can see from the metrics above how Arsenal began to maximise these assets of Havertz, not tasking him with progressing play, where his numbers were better at Chelsea, but instead allowing him to drift as a number nine, create for himself and others, get more shots off, and attack balls into the box with his hefty 6 foot 4 frame that aids his cause in winning 3.78 aerials per 90.

Palmer would benefit from having a selfless runner like Havertz up front who can drag defenders away with his runs, create little pockets of space for Palmer to receive, and also attack balls into the box, particularly from those crosses that the England star can play so perfectly, with left-footed inswingers from the right side.

Chelsea have looked to add height to their attacking line with links to Victor Osimhen and Samu Omorodion in the previous summer transfer window, as that would have allowed the Blues’ star man to fully utilise his creative toolset, with inswinging crosses, alongside his intricate through balls, and, of course, his devastating left-foot shots.

Amorim will love him: Man Utd face Angel Gomes repeat over Messi-esque star

In recent years, Manchester United have lost several players on free transfers. Perhaps the most notable of those is Paul Pogba. Having returned to the club after leaving for free in 2012, he left for nothing again in 2022, upon the expiration of his contract. Fellow academy graduate Jesse Lingard was a player who followed suit that same season.

The following season saw long-term number one goalkeeper David de Gea depart the club He did not find a club for a year, and Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane were the most recent senior players who departed following the expiration of their contract.

Incredibly, there was a player even before the likes of Pogba and Lingard who has proven to be a costly loss. That man is Angel Gomes.

Gomes’ Man United career

Red Devils academy graduate Gomes became a club and Premier League record-breaker in 2017 when he made his professional debut.

The London-born, Salford-raised midfielder came on against Crystal Palace, replacing Wayne Rooney to become his boyhood club’s youngest ever player aged 16 years and 263 days old. The United academy graduate also became the first player born in the 2000s to play in the top flight of English football.

Angel Gomes

When Jose Mourinho gave the youngster his debut over seven years ago, it completely seemed like he would go on to become a permanent fixture in the United first team. However, things did not quite work out like that.

Gomes made just ten appearances before he left the Red Devils. Those games were spread out across four seasons, and he played just 320 minutes in total. The majority of those were made up in Europa League games in the 2019/20 season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, there was no doubt about the youngster’s talent. With first-team chances at Old Trafford hard to come by, he left on a free transfer. Gomes made a bold move to France to join Lille, where he was immediately sent on loan to Portuguese side Boavista.

Now, 126 games and three England caps later, that move can certainly be called a success. United surely regret losing such a premium talent.

United would certainly hope to avoid any situations like this with a young player again, although they could be treading a fine line with one of their exciting youngsters ahead of next summer.

The Man United player who could leave for nothing

The player in question here is talented Ivorian attacker Amad Diallo. Despite his talent, which he has showcased at Old Trafford, the 22-year-old has been short of opportunities. His contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and whilst the Red Devils have the option to extend it by a year, he can begin to talk to other clubs in January.

United completed a deal for the youngster in 2020 from Atalanta, paying £19m up front and a further £18.2m in potential add-ons for the Ivorian. He has played just 34 times for the club, although has gone on a couple of loan spells.

In that time, the attacker has scored four goals, including a memorable FA Cup quarter-final winner against Liverpool, and grabbed three assists.

There is no doubting the talent Amad has. Former Atalanta teammate Papu Gomez was full of praise for him, and explained he is “like Lionel Messi”. Gomez is someone who has seen both up close, having played with the Ivorian in Bergamo and the legendary attacker for Argentina.

Argentina forward Lionel Messi.

Amad seems like a player incoming United boss Ruben Amorim would love. The 23-year-old has superb technical ability on the ball, and his close control is extraordinary, Messi-esque as Gomez suggested.

He could thrive in Amorim’s system, which sees 2 number 10s play just behind a centre-forward. Amad, who excels when on the ball between the lines or in the right half-space, could get plenty of joy in that role.

United’s soon-to-be-manager will surely be desperate to keep hold of the number 16 and give him a chance to thrive in a system that could suit him down to the ground.

Indeed, Red Devils bosses must surely be cautious not to repeat the mistake of losing Gomes and do all they can to keep hold of Amad beyond this summer.

No Rashford, Fernandes gets new role: Man Utd's dream XI under Amorim

Manchester United could be set for an exciting period under the new potential boss.

Chelsea prepared to offer Chalobah in talks to sign perfect £70m defender

Chelsea transfer chiefs are now prepared to include Crystal Palace loanee Trevoh Chalobah in talks to sign a £70 million defender, who they believe could be the perfect defender for Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea targeting centre-back signing in 2025

Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill have performed admirably in a solid central defensive partnership so far this campaign, but it is believed that BlueCo are targeting another body for that area of the pitch.

Chelsea and Maresca ready to axe player who's cost them over £7m in wages

It would be a bold decision to part ways with him.

ByBen Browning Nov 4, 2024

In terms of back-ups, Maresca already has Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo at his disposal, but there are doubts over the former’s suitability.

The Frenchman has played just 37 Premier League minutes this term, a cameo in their defeat at Liverpool, and has even failed to make four matchday squads out of their opening 10 top flight matches.

Some uncertainty surrounds the £90,000-per-week defender and his future at Stamford Bridge, with some reports suggesting Badiashile could be sold by Chelsea at the turn of the year.

It is worth noting that respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has since moved to pour cold water over Badiashile’s possible departure from west London, claiming the ex-Monaco man is highly thought of.

However, that hasn’t stopped Chelsea from looking at the market for new central defensive options. Reliable reporter Simon Phillips, who has sources at Cobham, says that Chelsea have been targeting centre-backs from South America.

Phillips has also claimed that Chelsea are expected to sign a new defender “very soon”, so this could spell bad news for Badiashile who is already struggling for a regular starting place ahead of Colwill and Fofana.

One potentially brilliant name linked with a move to the club is Nottingham Forest star Murillo. The Brazilian has been a regular in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, playing a key role in their exceptional beginning to the campaign and starting all 10 of their opening matches.

Chelsea prepared to offer Chalobah in talks to sign Murillo

According to reports out of Spain, the 22-year-old remains a target for Maresca’s side, and they could float a makeweight to Forest in exchange.

Chelsea are prepared to offer Chalobah in talks to sign Murillo, who Forest reportedly value at around £70 million. The versatile 25-year-old has started four league games for lowly Palace, and it is unclear whether they will attempt to sign him permanently once his loan spell concludes.

There is no option or obligation to buy in Palace’s temporary deal for Chalobah, so he appears set to return to his boyhood club as things stand. He doesn’t appear to have a future under Maresca, so perhaps Chelsea could gift him permanent new surroundings whilst securing an immediate upgrade in Murillo simultaneously.

It is added that Chelsea believe Murillo fits perfectly into Maresca’s system, so they clearly rate him highly.

Pat Cummins confirmed as Australia's new Test captain

Steven Smith returns to a leadership position with the vice-captaincy

Andrew McGlashan26-Nov-2021Pat Cummins has been named Australia’s new men’s Test captain on the day it appeared Tim Paine’s international career may have come to an end a week after he stood down following the emergence of explicit text messages.Steven Smith has returned to his first official leadership role with the national side since the ball-tampering scandal by taking the vice-captaincy position. It puts him an injury away from captaining the Test side again.Cummins, who was interviewed for the top job along with former captain Smith, was approved by the CA board on Thursday night after the recommendation of a five-person panel consisting of chair Richard Freudenstein, chief executive Nick Hockley, director Mel Jones and selectors George Bailey and Tony Dodemaide.”I am honoured to accept this role ahead of what will be a massive Ashes summer. I hope I can provide the same leadership Tim [Paine] has given the group in the past few years,” Cummins said. “With Steve and I as captains, a number of very senior players in this squad and some great young talent coming through we are a strong and tightly knit group.”This is an unexpected privilege which I am very grateful for and am very much looking forward to.”Related

Cummins has been earmarked as a potential future captain for a number of years but was overlooked for a vice-captaincy position in 2018 before being elevated to a shared role in 2019 then as the single understudy in 2020.”Pat is an outstanding player and leader. He has earned enormous respect from his teammates and from all corners of the game for his attitude and achievements, both on and off the field,” Hockley said. “We are extremely fortunate to have an experienced group of senior players who themselves are superb leaders. I have no doubt that Pat and Steve will be well supported in their respective leadership roles.”His only captaincy experience at the professional level is with the New South Wales one-day side last season when he captained them in four matches in what became a trophy-winning campaign although he missed the final due to the IPL.When NSW gave him the job it was with a view to him being Australia captain at some point amid concerns that candidates for the position were not being given enough opportunity at state level.Over to you, skipper•Getty ImagesIt will be a step into the unknown for Australian cricket with the men’s team having not been captained by a fast bowler since Ray Lindwall did it on a one-off occasion in 1956.Given the strains of fast bowling there is a strong chance Smith will take the helm at some point during their tenure.”I am pleased to return to the leadership of the team and look forward to helping and assisting Pat in any way I can,” Smith said. “Pat and I have played together for a long time, so we know our respective styles well.”Initially the timeline for the transition from Paine to a new captain might have been earmarked for after the Ashes but the events of last week meant the process was put into fast forward although CA said it would be a rigorous process with significant background checks for candidates.Being an integral part of all three formats there was already a huge burden on Cummins although his durability as a fast bowler has been outstanding since his comeback in 2017. He has only missed two of Australia’ last 35 Tests, albeit they have only played nine matches since the 2019 tour of England due to Covid-19 postponements.Cummins is currently part of Australia’s T20 World Cup and Australia A contingent still in quarantine on the Gold Coast. When they emerge next week there will be a short and intense lead-in to the Ashes with Cummins quickly having to grasp the various demands of being Australia captain before he walks out to toss the coin with Joe Root at the Gabba on December 8.

Fulham put on red alert as Bayern Munich "jewel" set to be shown the door

Looking to add Champions League quality to their ranks, Fulham are now reportedly among the clubs interested in signing one European gem who’s being shown the door at Bayern Munich.

Fulham transfer news

Whilst Marco Silva’s side have struggled for consistency in the current campaign, they’ve still had impressive moments such as victory over Newcastle United and recent last-gasp comeback against West London rivals Brentford, courtesy of Harry Wilson. The Cottagers are a credit to their manager, but must now look to make progress beyond just staying in the Premier League.

As they push beyond the bottom half, however, Fulham could become the victims of their own success. They already suffered that fate in the summer when Joao Palhinha left for Bayern Munich and have recently seen defender Joachim Andersen linked with a move to Juventus.

Joachim Andersen for Fulham.

That said, those in West London may yet make some impressive moves of their own when 2025 arrives. According to Caught Offside, Fulham have been put on red alert in pursuit of Mathys Tel, who has been shown the door to leave on loan at Bayern Munich amid a struggle to gain minutes under Vincent Kompany.

The 19-year-old left-winger has started just once in the Bundesliga and appeared just seven times in all competitions all season and desperately needs a move away from the German giants. Fulham aren’t the only side interested either. The Cottagers are reportedly joined by Crystal Palace, Leicester City and high-flying Nottingham Forest in a busy race to sign the winger on loan.

"My contract ends in 2025" – Fulham star hints at club to extend his deal

This is great news for Marco Silva.

ByHenry Jackson Oct 25, 2024

Fulham, of course, are no strangers to Bayern Munich after their deal to sell Palhinha to the Bundesliga side in the summer. Now, the roles could reverse and Fulham could become the club in pursuit of a potential game-changer.

"Jewel" Tel needs January move

At this stage of his career, game time is the key and Tel looks increasingly unlikely to receive that at Bayern Munich. Instead, the teenager should leave on loan in the January transfer window and Fulham represent a solid option. Silva’s side aren’t battling relegation and play some of the most exciting football outside of the top six with players like Emile Smith Rowe and Alex Iwobi recently spearheading that.

Those at Craven Cottage are perfectly set up for a young prospect like Tel to come in and thrive. If given the chance, Tel may well prove Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig right, who dubbed the Frenchman as “an absolute jewel” earlier this year.

At such a young age, the future is still bright for Tel but a move away from Bayern Munich currently seems like the best way to realise his potential, albeit just on loan.
