With Bryan Mbeumo now expected to undergo a medical next week, Manchester United have reportedly turned their focus towards another summer target.
Latest on Man Utd's goalkeeper search
The clock is ticking on Andre Onana’s place as Manchester United’s No.1 whether he likes it or not. The Red Devils instantly commenced their search for an upgrade this summer and whilst things haven’t moved as quickly as the likes of Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo, their pursuit remains ongoing.
Several names have emerged as candidates for the role with the most prominent being Emiliano Martinez and Diogo Costa. Both would be upgrades on the struggling Onana, but which direction United choose to head towards is the big question. If Statman Dave’s verdict is anything to go by, then it should be the latter rather than Aston Villa’s No.1.
Costa is certainly a realistic option too. The Porto goalkeeper has reportedly already given the green light to a move to Old Trafford this summer and INEOS must now turn to the negotiations table with the Portuguese club.
That said, Costa won’t come cheap and that may prove to be the ultimate stumbling block for the Red Devils. With a release clause reportedly worth as much as £64m, United would be forced to splash out a similar price for the goalkeeper that they’ve already spent on Cunha and Mbeumo.

If that is the case then a cheaper option which they could find in the Serie A would certainly be ideal.
Man Utd ready to submit Carnesecchi offer
As reported by Football Italia, INEOS are now ready to submit a €40m (£34m) offer to sign Marco Carnesecchi from Atalanta in a bid which would include add-ons to close in on the Serie A club’s €50m (£43m) valuation.
Like Costa, Carnesecchi is just 24 years old and already showing plenty of signs that he’d be an instant upgrade on Onana if Manchester United complete their move this summer.

In several key areas, the Atalanta goalkeeper outperformed Onana last season. But what stands out most is his incredibly high save percentage and the best context to add to that would be the fact that Alisson Becker only managed 72% – that’s the level of player that United would be signing.
Dubbed “excellent” by Get Italian Football News, 6 foot 3 Carnesecchi was recently called up to Italy’s senior side after starring for the U21s, and although he was forced to sit on and watch from the bench, will have his eyes set on eventually dethroning Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Before that time comes, however, a move to Old Trafford could be calling his name. Whether the goalkeeper answers that call remains to be seen.
Tottenham Hotspur’s frontline has been impressive throughout the 2024/25 campaign, managing to catch the eye despite the club finishing in a lowly 17th position in the Premier League.
The Lilywhites netted 64 goals in their 38 outings, with only six other sides in the division scoring more, four of which managed to secure Champions League qualification.
Brennan Johnson finished the season as their top scorer in the league with his tally of 11 goals, adding to his excellent collection, which saw him net the winner in the Europa League final.
Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson
He was the only player to register double figures in the league, but numerous players across the squad managed to register key goals, which contributed to their excellent tally.
However, new boss Thomas Frank has immediately wanted to target reinforcements in such an area, evidently wanting strength and depth in his quest for success.
The latest on Spurs’ hunt for new attackers this summer
After his successful stint at Brentford, the Dane has already targeted a move for striker Yoane Wissa, with the Congolese star a man in demand this window.
He’s not the only Bees star on their radar, with Bryan Mbeumo another player who’s been strongly linked with the Lilywhites, but it appears they’ve missed out on his signature, with a move to Manchester United now edging closer.
Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo celebrates after the match
Another name has been mentioned in recent days as a result, with Canadian international Jonathan David firmly on their radar, according to Get Football News Italy.
They report that Frank’s side have made contact with his representatives over a move to North London with his contract at Lille set to expire at the end of the month.
It also states that the 25-year-old has now halted talks with Italian sides Napoli and Juventus to explore a deal to the Premier League, after scoring 25 times in 49 appearances this season.
Why Spurs’ latest target could be Frank’s own Kane
Harry Kane is a player who has cemented himself in Spurs’ history forever, catapulting himself into the hearts of the fanbase given his spell in the first team over a 10-year period.
The 31-year-old rose through the youth ranks before registering 280 goals for the club, a tally which has made him the highest goalscorer in the club’s history.
However, his goals weren’t enough to catapult the Lilywhites to any form of tangible success, subsequently seeing the forward leave for Bayern Munich in an £82m deal back in 2023.
Since his departure, the club have spent big on Dominic Solanke, dropping a club-record £65m fee to secure his signature, but he’s struggled to maintain elite levels of performance over the course of his first campaign – scoring just nine goals in the process.
The club have greatly lacked that clinical presence in forward areas, something which David could provide in North London should the club land him in the coming weeks.
Lille'sJonathanDavidcelebrates scoring their fourth goal
When comparing his stats to those of fan-favourite Kane, he’s managed to outperform him in numerous key areas this campaign – with FBref labelling him as a similar player to the England international.
David, who’s been labelled “one of the best strikers in the world” by Tony Marinaro, has achieved a better shot on target rate than Kane this season, highlighting his clinical nature within the final third.

He’s also completed more of the passes he’s attempted and registered a higher tally of key passes per 90, offering Frank’s side an all-round option that can provide alongside scoring.
The Canadian has further demonstrated his all-round talents, registering a higher take-on completion rate, whilst posting more progressive carries per 90 – having the skillset to create his own opportunities, rather than be dependent on his teammates.
Given that the forward is available on a free transfer this summer, it would be a no-brainer for Spurs to strongly pursue a move to avoid missing out on his signature in the coming weeks.
If he can get anywhere near close to the levels produced by the departed forward in North London, it would be a superb signing, with his talents undoubtedly handing the manager the attacking quality he desires.
Frank's answer to Bale: Spurs make huge bid to sign "sensational" £70m star
Tottenham Hotspur appear to be making huge strides in a deal for one attacking star.
After a month of what felt like inactivity to the fans, the Gunners are starting to make moves in the transfer window.
On top of the deal for Martin Zubimendi finally coming towards a conclusion, the club have now sealed a £5m deal for Kepa Arrizabalaga and submitted a bid for Brentford’s Christian Nørgaard.
Moreover, recent reports have now suggested that Arsenal are advancing in talks to sign a world-class attacker, someone who could be a dream team for another of the club’s targets: Jorrel Hato.
Arsenal ramp up transfer business
Arsenal were first credited with an interest in Hato back in December 2023, when he was still just 17 years old.
Transfer Focus
Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.
Links then popped back up last summer and then once again this spring, yet it’s in the previous few weeks that they’ve really started to feel significant.
For example, reports earlier this week revealed that the North Londoners are now ‘accelerating their move’ for the incredible teenage talent who could be set to cost them around £43m.
It would certainly be exciting to sign such a highly-rated youngster, and now it looks like the club are also making progress in their pursuit of someone who’d be a great teammate for him: Rodrygo.
At least that is according to a recent report from Football Transfers, who have reaffirmed that Arsenal remain incredibly interested in the Brazilian international.
The report goes further than that, though, revealing that the Gunners have ‘taken significant strides toward’ the massive signing and that they have ‘held positive discussions regarding a transfer fee with Real Madrid.’
Regarding that fee, the report claims that the North Londoners have now found out that the full package to land the former Santos gem would amount to a figure north of €100m, which converts to around £85m.
So, it looks like it could be a complicated and incredibly costly transfer to get over the line, but given Rodrygo’s outrageous talent, it is one Arsenal should be fighting for, especially as he could be the perfect teammate for Hato as well.
Why Rodrygo would be an ideal teammate for Hato
There are two reasons why Hato would surely love playing behind Rodrygo, and they relate to his output and positioning.
The first is really quite simple to understand, as while the Dutchman’s primary focus is to stop the opposition from scoring goals, he has shown an increasing ability to provide chances for his teammates, as in the league alone this season, he scored twice and provided six assists in just 31 appearances, 28 of which were at left-back.
Therefore, it tracks that should the 19-year-old have a more dangerous attacker ahead of him, then his own goal and assist numbers would likely soar, and in the Brazilian phenom, he’d have just that.

For example, even though he has had to spend the majority of this season out of position, off the right, the “world-class superstar,” as dubbed by Luka Modrić, still scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in 53 appearances, totalling 3425 minutes, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 2.08 games, or every 137 minutes.
Moving onto his positioning, and by looking at the Real ace’s heatmap from this season and last season, it’s clear that what he likes to do is move from the outside in, so while he can operate on the touchline, he’s more comfortable inside.
In turn, he vacates space out wide, space which is perfect for an overlapping full-back to exploit, and while the Ajax star does like to invert, his own heatmap shows that he also likes to get forward and stay wide.
Moreover, respected analyst Ben Mattinson argues that his “dynamism would translate so well to an overlapping LB,” and when you add to that the fact he has some seriously impressive underlying numbers related to chance creation, there is every chance that he could form a dangerous partnership with Rodrygo from out wide.
For example, FBref places the teenager in the top 1% of full-backs in the next best 14 competitions for pass completion, the top 3% for goal-creating chances from live passes and the top 4% for overall goal-creating actions, all per 90.
Ultimately, on their own, Hato and Rodrygo would be great signings for Arsenal, but together, there is every chance that they could help revolutionise the Gunners’ left-hand side and make it just as dangerous as their right.

A win, irrespective of the margin, is enough to put Afghanistan in the final four, while nothing but a huge win will do for Bangladesh

Familiar foes Afghanistan and Bangladesh will clash in the last Group 1 game of the Super Eight•Associated Press
Match detailsAfghanistan vs Bangladesh June 24, Kingstown, 8:30pm localBig picture – race to the semi-finalsIt’s the last Super Eight game of the T20 World Cup 2024 and it’s open season as far as the fourth semi-final spot is concerned, with Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who will be out in the middle, and Australia, who can at best wait and watch, all in the fray. Here’s what will do it for each of them: It’s simple for Afghanistan – win and get into the semi-finals; lose and they are out, since their NRR will stay below Australia’s even with a super-over defeat. Australia are done with their games with a net run-rate of -0.331. They get into the semi-finals if Bangladesh win but Bangladesh’s and Afghanistan’s NRR remain below theirs. For Bangladesh to go through, they need to win by 62 runs (having scored 160, say) or win in 12.5 overs (chasing 160), which will take their NRR above that of the other two. There’s rain around, of course, and shared points do the job for Afghanistan. But facing Afghanistan are a down-on-their-luck Bangladesh side, after two meek defeats against India and Australia.Related

Scenarios: How Afghanistan's win opens up Group 1
Afghanistan show they are more than just their spinners
It has been another dream run for Afghanistan in a World Cup. They had fought hard in the 50-over tournament in India last year, only to finish in sixth place. This time, they have roared through the group stage, and although there were hiccups against West Indies and India, Afghanistan’s landmark win against Australia has put them right back into contention for the semi-finals.Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran complement each other, and they added their third century stand of the competition against Australia. That Afghanistan did not rely solely on their spinners in their historic win was also pleasing for them. Gulbadin Naib, who has bowled in only three out of 11 T20I matches this year, stunned Australia with a four-for, with Naveen-ul-Haq chipping in with three. This sort of performance frees up Rashid Khan from always having to deliver the knockout punches while also keeping things tight.Bangladesh’s batting has also struggled significantly at this T20 World Cup. The top order has the lowest collective average among the Super Eight teams. Their middle-order is also showing signs of wear and tear, which has led the team management to tinker with the fast-bowling line-up to bring in the extra batter.2:01

Sticking to the recent trend of targeting Premier League rivals, PIF are now reportedly evaluating a move to sign an impressive attacking midfielder for Newcastle United this summer.
Newcastle still chasing Elanga and Trafford deals
Having already signed Antonio Cordero on a free transfer to get their business underway nice and early, Newcastle are now pushing on in an attempt to make some impressive statements. Chasing deals to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and James Trafford from Burnley, the Magpies are aiming to swoop in and weaken their Premier League opposition.
Both are long-term targets and both are players that would hand Eddie Howe instant upgrades within his side. Newcastle’s chase to sign a fresh right-wing option has particularly been no secret in the last 12 months and, after missing out on Manchester United-bound Bryan Mbeumo, Elanga’s arrival would make perfect sense.

Even if Trafford and Elanga arrive though, Newcastle may not be done there when it comes to shopping in the Premier League. The Magpies are seemingly in a ruthless mood and have now turned their attention back towards Brentford. Having missed out on Mbeumo, PIF are now reportedly eyeing a summer swoop to sign one of the Bees’ star midfielders.
PIF evaluating Damsgaard move for Newcastle
According to Caught Offside, PIF are now evaluating a move to sign Mikkel Damsgaard for Newcastle this summer. The Danish midfielder is not someone Brentford are keen to lose, but every player has a price and the West London club reportedly value the 24-year-old at €50m (£42m).
Tottenham Hotspur are also sniffing around a deal amid their move for Thomas Frank, with the Bees boss hoping to take a couple of his star players with him to the North side of London.
Damsgaard is a talent who took a few years to discover his best form after initially bursting onto the scene at Euro 2020. Described as “brilliant” by scout Jacek Kulig five years on from that tournament, however, he’s finally at the peak of his powers at Brentford.
Only Mohamed Salah, Elanga and Newcastle’s Murphy assisted more goals than the Dane last season, who could join the latter and perhaps even the Forest star as well, forming quite the creative partnership at St James’ Park.
Better fit than Mbeumo: Newcastle open talks to sign "world-class" PL star
Newcastle are pushing to sign new forwards in the transfer market this summer.
ByAngus Sinclair Jun 12, 2025
Reportedly earning just £35,000-a-week in West London, Damsgaard would hardly break the bank in Tyneside and represents another target who knows exactly how to navigate the challenges of the Premier League. Like Elanga and Trafford, he ticks every box for Newcastle.
Manchester United have come to such a pass that the first few post-Fergie years could be recalled as if the halcyon days.
Last season, Erik ten Hag was dismissed at the end of October following a wretched start to the season, winning only three of their opening nine Premier League fixtures; however, the worst was yet to come.
Ruben Amorim has been put through the wringer since packing his bags at Sporting Lisbon, where he had mined such riches, established the Leões as Portugal’s defining current side, but has since struggled to get a tune from his Red Devils side, who languished to a 15th-place finish in the league and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham.
It’s no surprise the manager, seeking to employ an aggressive high-pressing system, wanted to stay in his homeland until the end of the 2024/25 season, but was informed by INEOS it was “now or never”.
All very doom and gloom, yada yada yada. However, Man United are massive and will be looking to turn a corner over the coming months as they prepare for a clean slate.
Old Trafford Manchester United
Indeed, that famous Old Trafford pull remains intact and, moreover, a new strategy has been fashioned to better the chances of a revival.
Man Utd's new transfer strategy
It’s telling that Matheus Cunha, one of the most dangerous forwards in the Premier League last season, barricaded himself away from the interest of Arsenal and of Aston Villa. He shielded himself from the temptation of a bumper paycheck in the Saudi Pro League. And why?
Man United came calling, of course, activating Cunha’s £62.5m release clause. Amorim has a new star man to tinker with next term, one hailed for his “absolutely sensational” football IQ by Micah Richards on Match of the Day last season, the pundit continuing to call him the “best at everything” at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolverhampton Wanderers'MatheusCunhacelebrates
And that’s not all. Bryan Mbeumo may well be joining the new United project, having informed Champions League-qualified sides like Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham of his preference to move from Brentford to the Theatre of Dreams this summer.
The 25-year-old scored 20 goals across 38 league games last year and has already been the subject of a failed bid from United, though they will continue to push for the forward, who is rated in excess of £60m.
However, Spurs will too, and having appointed Thomas Frank to replace Ange Postecoglou, the narrative has changed somewhat: he’s giving the Londoners his consideration.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his band of suits will remain calm and confident, but a back-up plan wouldn’t go amiss.
Man United line up Mbeumo alternative
As per ESPN, Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo has been shortlisted by Jason Wilcox as a dreamy alternative to Mbeumo, having been on the club’s radar for a few months at this stage.
Antoine Semenyo for Bournemouth.
United’s Chief Executive Officer, Omar Berrada, is determined not to pay beyond a reasonable price point for Brentford’s talisman, thus suggesting Semenyo, 25, could be an interesting fallback, given he’s available for slightly less at £50m. Tottenham have also been credited as admirers.
Man United might be prioritising the signing of Mbeumo, but in Semenyo, they might actually find an even better fit for Amorim’s system.
Why Antoine Semenyo could be perfect for Amorim
Bournemouth signed Semenyo from Championship side Bristol City for £10.5m in January 2023, and they haven’t looked back.
AFC Bournemouth's AntoineSemenyolooks on
The appointment of Andoni Iraola has been the making of him, having notched 19 goals and nine assists across the past two Premier League seasons, including 17 direct contributions from 34 matches across the recent campaign.
Not just a potent threat, Semenyo could rival Mbeumo in underlying qualities, perhaps with fleeter feet and a steelier ball-carrying game, which may well lead to him being the better pick for Amorim’s project, playing on the right side of a centre-forward who has yet to be welcomed to the fold.
That is to say, Semenyo is not just a driven striker at goal but also a committed defensive force, ranking among the top 3% of positional peers in the Premier League last year for blocks, the top 23% for clearances and the top 8% for aerial duels won per 90, as per FBref.
He also averaged 6.1 successful duels per game, as per Sofascore, whereas Mbeumo, another combative forward, won 4.7 per match. It is for this reason, then, that Semenyo has been declared a “duel monster” and a “workhorse off the ball” by analyst Ben Mattinson.
Make no mistake, at times across the past year, Mbeumo has simply been “unplayable” in the final third, as was marvelled by Frank following a 4-2 win over Newcastle.
But Semenyo is faster, more physical and, perhaps, a more dynamic attacking threat given his propensity to succeed across a range of attacking positions.

Ultimately, either signing would illustrate nicely Man United’s refined transfer strategy, securing the signatures of Premier League-proven players.
Goals were in short supply last year, Amorim’s frontline at times a picture of an arid desert: dry, isolated and showing only a mirage of newfound attacking inspiration, before lapsing back into old ways.
But Semenyo would change that, partnering Cunha in the manager’s three-forked offensive line. His robust athleticism, eagerness to fire consistent shots off, and indeed his defensive work rate align with Amorim’s tactical principles, with that latter element sure to be instrumental in getting the notorious three-man backline up and running.
“Elegant, graceful and powerful,” as Jamie Redknapp says, this forward’s got the lot, and is only going to get better over the coming years.

As Everton’s summer transfer business begins to heat up, The Friedkin Group are reportedly expected to launch a £9m move to sign one particular midfield star.
Everton set to sign Thierno Barry
The first signing of the Hill Dickinson era is on his way, according to Fabrizio Romano. Replacing the departing Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Thierno Barry is set to commence Everton’s summer business in style and hand David Moyes a striker who has certainly left many impressed whilst at Villarreal.
After scoring 19 goals in all competitions, Barry is ready to take the Premier League by storm and solve a striker problem that has been ongoing at Everton since Calvert-Lewin’s injury struggles began.
As one striker arrives, however, another has bid an emotional farewell. Taking to social media to confirm the news that he is leaving Everton after deciding against signing a new deal, Calvert-Lewin said: “After nine remarkable years I’ve made the incredibly difficult decision – together with my family – to begin a new chapter in my career.
“This isn’t something I chose lightly. Everton has been my home since I was 19 years old. It’s the place that saw potential in me, challenged me to grow and shaped me both as a footballer and as a man.

ByTom Cunningham Jul 3, 2025
“I want to express my gratitude to all the managers and coaches I’ve worked with over the years and to my team-mates who have become life-long friends.”
The Toffees acted swiftly to replace the experienced striker and that could become quite the trend this summer amid reports that Friedkin are now expected to launch their move to sign the perfect Abdoulaye Doucoure heir.
Friedkin expected to launch Wilfred Ndidi move
According to former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers scout Mick Brown, Friedkin are expected to launch a £9m move to sign Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City this summer, triggering his release clause for Everton in the process.
The former scout told Football Insider: “Everton are considering signing Wilfred Ndidi. It’s a move I expect he will be open to as well, the chance to get straight back into the Premier League after getting relegated with Leicester. They’ve been keen on him for a while and he’s a very solid player.
“Everton have had scouts watching his performances and he’s been one of Leicester’s better players. It might prove difficult to get over the line because there are a lot of clubs who have been made aware of that release clause he’s got.
“But I expect them to make an attempt to bring him in ahead of these clubs. Either way, it looks like he’s definitely leaving Leicester.”
A Premier League veteran who is still more than capable in the top-flight, Ndidi represents the type of midfielder who would instantly replace the departed Doucoure at Everton.

Batting at No. 7, he played Sri Lanka’s best innings, hitting 67 not out off 65, in a total of 230 for 8 in the first ODI.When defending, the left-arm spinner took 2 for 39 off nine overs, taking the crucial wicket of Rohit Sharma, who was India’s best batter on the evening, and Sri Lanka went on to tie the game.On the batting front, Wellalage had started watchfully after coming in at 101 for 5 in the 27th over, but on a surface on which no one truly looked set, he seemed the most comfortable batter across both teams, even striking powerful boundaries at the close. For this innings, he took inspiration from a Sri Lanka team-mate, he said.Related

Hasaranga, Asalanka pick up three-fors to force a tie
Pathum Nissanka, who hit another fifty on Friday, has been the hosts’ best batter of the tour so far, having also made runs in the T20Is.”They have a lot of experienced bowlers, so the more we can limit our mistakes, the more we can put pressure on them,” Wellalage said of his thinking during his innings. “I was watching Pathum Nissanka bat quite a lot. I put his batting in my mind as I came up with a plan. If you take the pitch, it was one that supported spin bowling. I tried to put as much pressure on the bowler and build partnerships.”With the ball, he perhaps struck the most important blow of the night. Rohit was threatening to make easy work of the target when he galloped to his fifty off 33 balls. But in the 15th over, Wellalage beat him in flight, and struck Rohit in front of the stumps as he attempted a sweep shot, cutting that innings short for 58 off 47.This is after he’d also dismissed Shubman Gill, again with a nicely flighted delivery that Gill top edged high enough for the keeper to track it down. Wellalage had been the first spinner to be introduced, inside the powerplay.”We knew that the wicket was spinning. So Charith Asalanka had told me that I would be bowling in the powerplay. I had good support from the wicket too.”With Rohit at the time, I was trying just to bowl wicket-to-wicket, because I knew how much assistance there was from the pitch.”The middle to late overs, were all Wanindu Hasaranga and Asalanka, said Wellalage. Those two bowlers took three wickets apiece, with Asalanka providing the final touches, taking two wickets in the 48th over when India had already tied the game. Having Axar Patel caught behind was his other wicket.Earlier, Hasaranga had removed Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Kuldeep Yadav.”When we bowled, the game changed with the wickets that Wanindu and Charith took. They took wickets at very difficult times, and that’s how we were able to at least keep it to this score. If you take Axar Patel and KL Rahul, these are batters who have finished a lot of matches.”At that time we needed to get the bowlers in, and when Charith got Axar out and Wanindu got KL Rahul out. It was important to stay calm at that stage, and the match turned our way.”
