Cobham talent left Chelsea for just £170k, now he's worth more than Isak

The fans might not have got everything they wanted, but it was a pretty good summer transfer window for Chelsea this year.

The club were able to ship out several players they deemed no longer good enough, and bring in a host of brilliant young talents who could develop into superstars for Enzo Maresca.

However, unlike some of their Premier League rivals, there was no blockbuster move for a certifiable world-class player, like Alexander Isak.

The Swedish international’s £125m move to Liverpool is now the league’s record transfer, although, painfully, Chelsea did lose a young talent in the past who is now worth more than that.

The best Ex-Chelsea gems

Over the last five years or so, Chelsea have seen a pretty constant stream of academy products come through and make it into the first team.

Where Are They Now

Your star player or biggest flop has left the club but what are they doing in the present day? This article is part of Football FanCast’s Where Are They Now series.

However, like every other team, they’ve also lost out on some serious stars when they were young, with Declan Rice being a big one.

The Arsenal star came up through Cobham alongside Mason Mount and a number of other notable players, but at the age of 14 was let go.

He then moved to West Ham United, where he made 245 appearances and won the Conference League before joining the Gunners for £105m in the summer of 2023 and becoming a key cog in Mikel Arteta’s midfield.

Another youngster the Blues missed out on was Michael Olise, who left the club at the age of 14 and has gone on to become one of the best wingers in world football.

The Frenchman earned a £50m move to Bayern Munich last summer after impressing at Crystal Palace and more than justified his price tag.

In 55 appearances, he scored 20 goals and provided 23 assists, which comes out to a sensational average of a goal involvement every 1.27 games.

In all, Chelsea have missed out on some unreal talents of the years, although perhaps the worst is someone now worth more than Isak.

The ex-Chelsea gem worth more than Isak

Unfortunately for Chelsea, there are plenty more stars they let slip through their fingers, but in this case, the player worth more than Isak is Jamal Musiala.

Yes, the German international was once a part of the Blues’ academy, but in the summer of 2019, he opted to join Bayern, for which the club received just £170k.

It was seen as such a disaster by some that Massimo Franchi, the creator of the Golden Boy award, compared it to “the Louvre losing the Mona Lisa!”

Dramatic? Slightly, but the mercurial midfielder has been exceptional in the years since, and according to the CIES Football Observatory, is worth up to 151m.

That converts to around £131m, or £6m more than Isak’s record-breaking move, and while that sounds absurd, his performances suggest otherwise.

For example, despite still being just 22-years-old, the “world-class” superstar, as dubbed by former manager Julian Nagelsmann, has racked up 207 appearances for Bayern, totalling 12163 minutes, in which he’s scored 64 goals and provided 39 assists.

That comes out to a brilliant average of a goal involvement every other game, or every 118.08 minutes.

On top of that, he has already won 40 senior caps for Germany, in which he’s scored eight goals and provided eight assists.

Ultimately, Musiala is an exceptional world-beating talent, and Chelsea must rue the fact that they weren’t able to keep hold of him.

Ex-West Ham player shares disarray "behind the scenes" in warning to McKenna

West Ham United have been linked with a move for Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna, among others, as pressure continues to mount on Graham Potter.

Potter has recorded the worst win percentage of any West Ham manager in Premier League history apart from Avram Grant, who led the Hammers to relegation in 2011, so the tactician needs to turn things around quickly.

West Ham have also conceded more goals than any other side in the top flight so far, becoming the first team to hit double digits in that regard this season, with their lacklustre 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham bringing Potter right back down to Earth.

The east Londoners recorded their first victory of 2025/2026 with an impressive 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest prior to the international break, which turned out to be West Ham-linked manager Nuno Espírito Santo’s final game in charge at the City Ground.

However, West Ham’s weaknesses were laid bare for all to see during the London derby last Saturday, with goals from Pape Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Micky van de Ven rounding off what was a convincing display for the visitors.

With Crystal Palace, Everton and Arsenal still to come before the next international break in October, these next few weeks could prove vital to determine Potter’s future, amid links to an array of potential replacements.

José Mourinho was tipped with a potential West Ham move, but the Portuguese appears more likely to join Benfica. Meanwhile, ex-West Ham star and England legend Frank Lampard has also been mentioned as a candidate to succeed Potter.

Nuno, now a free agent after leaving Forest, could be West Ham’s best bet, as David Sullivan is rumoured to be an admirer (Alan Nixon). Reports also suggest that Nuno’s priority is to stay in England and wants an immediate return to management.

While some media sources have rebuffed claims that McKenna could join (Claret & Hugh), others state he was a guest of the West Ham boardroom during their 3-0 loss to Spurs (Football Insider).

Ex-West Ham player warns McKenna not to join amid "disarray behind-the-scenes"

Now, speaking to C&H, an unnamed former West Ham player has sent a stern warning to McKenna over taking the job — urging him against it as the club is in “disarray” behind-the-scenes.

Given how things have been since David Moyes’ departure, he could have a point.

Should Kieran McKenna stay at Ipswich?

The 39-year-old, despite suffering relegation with the Tractor Boys last season, is still one of England’s most exciting young coaches.

Back in 2024, McKenna was credibly linked with both Tottenham and Chelsea after two fine seasons at Portman Road — where he guided Ipswich to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.

His stock has fallen since then, especially amid Ipswich’s slow start to 25/26, but the gap between England’s first and second tier is considerable. All the newly-promoted teams have gone straight back down at the first time of asking since 23/24, so relegation is hardly a reflection on McKenna’s managerial prowess.

McKenna won’t want another league drop on his CV, but West Ham’s squad boasts an array of talent and the tactician could arguably work wonders with them.

Kohli thinks 'people are forgetting importance of taking it deep in T20s'

Kohli highlighted the importance of stitching partnerships and rotating strike so as to not let the game stagnate

ESPNcricinfo staff27-Apr-20252:17

Kumble: Kohli countered Kuldeep really well

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have chased four times in IPL 2025. Virat Kohli has scored half-centuries in all those four games, with RCB ending up on the winning side every time.Sunday night against Delhi Capitals was arguably their trickiest chase – they were set a target of 163 – and Kohli played second-fiddle to Krunal Pandya in a 119-run stand on a slow surface. Kohli highlighted the importance of “stitching a partnership and taking it deep,” especially in a season where he said it’s been difficult for batters to start hitting from the get-go.”The total on the board. What the conditions are like. Who are the bowlers that are due to bowl. Who are the bowlers that are going to be hard to get away,” Kohli listed as the things he factors in while chasing. “So, I try and make sure that my singles and doubles don’t stop. And then you keep getting the odd boundary in between. The game never gets stagnant. So, that’s always been my focus to keep working on rotating strikes, singles and doubles.Related

RCB go No. 1 after Krunal's all-round heroics

“People, I think, are forgetting the importance of stitching in a partnership or going deep into the innings in T20 cricket,” Kohli told the host broadcaster. “And I think this year around, you’re seeing that you can’t just come out and tee off from ball one. You need to have professionalism, to read the situation and try and get into a position where you can start dominating the bowlers.”And for that, you need to string in a partnership. And it won’t come easy on a slow pitch if you don’t know how to rotate the strike. So, yeah, that’s pretty much my method.”I analyse the conditions, understand what the score on the board is, understand what the situation demands of me and have the skills to kind of keep rotating the strike and not be stagnant on one end.”Chasing 163, RCB were reduced to 26 for 3 after four overs. While Krunal, promoted up the order, had a scratchy start, Kohli kept the runs ticking without taking too many risks. Krunal then accelerated from 17 off 21 to 73 off 47, while Kohli fell for 51 off 47, trying to hit Dushmantha Chameera for a six.”Whenever there’s a chase on or there’s a situation I go in, I keep checking with the dugout whether we are on course, what is my role, what is the kind of innings I need to play,” Kohli said. “It was a top win, we were under pressure, 3 for 26 and then me and Krunal getting a 100-run partnership.”Kohli has scored 245 runs across the four run-chases this season, and his average from those games also reads 245 since Sunday night was the first time he was dismissed batting second in this IPL. Overall, he has racked up 443 runs from 10 matches and is the leading run-getter of the season at this stage.

Juventus plot January bid for ex-Inter & PSG defender with Bayern Munich star Kim Min-jae also on radar after Serie A side see injured Bremer ruled out

Juventus find themselves in a defensive crisis, akin to the one they experienced last season, which has forced them to look in the transfer market for suitable reinforcements. According to reports from Italy, the Bianconeri are looking for defenders with previous experience in the Serie A. Milan Skriniar, formerly of Inter, and Kim Min-jae, who was crucial in Napoli's title-winning success in 2022-23, are reportedly on the radar.

Juventus find themselves in defensive crisis

Centre-back Gleison Bremer was ruled out until the end November after suffering a torn medial meniscus injury in his left knee. The club released a statement on Monday clarifying that the Brazilian would undergo surgery. With left-back Juan Cabal also already sidelined for the next three to four weeks due to a hamstring injury, coach Igor Tudor faces a deep defensive crisis. The club are aware that both Cabal and Bremer may suffer minor relapses along the road to recovery, with the latter already suffering an ACL injury last season.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportSkriniar and Kim on Juve's radar for January

Keeping in mind the growing pains due to injuries, exacerbated only by a congested fixture list, the Old Lady are considering signing a centre-back who has previously played in the Serie A. According to , the Turin-based heavyweights are keeping tabs on former Inter and Paris-Saint Germain defender Skriniar, who is currently plying his trade in Turkey's Super Lig with Fenerbahce. They were reportedly interested in signing the Slovak last winter.

Meanwhile, the club is believed to prioritise defenders who are currently out-of-favour at their current clubs, such as Kim. The former Napoli centre-back, once crucial for the Partenopei in their title-winning crusade in the 2022-23 season, is now facing an uncertain future at Bayern Munich.

A new right-back another requirement for Juventus

Kim's arrival could fill their final non-EU squad slot after signing Canadian star Jonathan David on a free transfer, but Tudor is prioritising a right-back and a top-level midfielder. Atletico Madrid’s Nahuel Molina is the main target, despite having rejected a move in August. With limited minutes in Spain and the World Cup approaching, Juve are hoping to change his mind. Molina’s Serie A experience and good relations between the clubs strengthen the case. His arrival would allow Pierre Kalulu to return to central defence in a three-man backline. Alternatives include Nice's Jonathan Clauss, familiar to Tudor from their Marseille days, and 21-year-old Brooke Norton-Cuffy, a promising young Englishman at Genoa.

Kusal Perera, Sikandar Raza star in record chase to take Qalandars to PSL title

The two helped Lahore Qalandars chase down 202 with a ball to spare in an electrifying PSL final against Quetta Gladiators

Madushka Balasuriya25-May-2025There were n-number of performances that might have deserved to be on the winning side in this final, but in the end, it was Kusal Perera and Sikandar Raza that earned the honour of being swarmed by their team-mates under the midnight Lahore sky, as Lahore Qalandars edged Quetta Gladiators in an electrifying PSL 2025 final. The tl;dr is that Qalandars needed 47 off the final three overs to complete not only the highest successful chase in a PSL final, but in any T20 final. If that wasn’t a dramatic enough script, the winning runs were struck by Raza, a man who had landed in Pakistan just ten minutes before the toss .Twenty-four hours earlier, Raza had made a battling half-century at Trent Bridge in Zimbabwe’s first Test in England for 22 years. Now, with eight needed off three balls, he polished the game off with a ball to spare with a six and a four, but that he was even in a position to score those runs was down to Perera, whose unbeaten 62 off 31 kept Qalandars in the chase when most logic dictated otherwise.Related

Of the performances trailing in their wake were blistering 40s from Mohammad Naeem and Mohammed Shafique, while Hasan Nawaz’s 76 off 43 and Faheem Ashraf’s 28 off eight might have won the game on another day.But this was a game in which holding your nerve was key, and Qalandars did that at the most crucial moments.Raza’s bizarre day”Bowled 25 overs the day before yesterday, batted for 20-odd overs yesterday, had dinner in Birmingham, breakfast in Dubai, drove to Abu Dhabi for lunch, took a flight and had dinner in Pakistan.”That’s Raza summing up his lead-up to this PSL final vividly, a journey which ended with him scoring the winning runs. But even if he had been understandably a little off-colour with the ball, he was around at the game’s key moments. Whether it was to manufacture the opening breakthrough of the game, to hold on to a skier at long-off to see off the dangerous Nawaz, or to dispatch Mohammad Amir for a four and a six off the first two deliveries he faced when the required rate was around 15.Hasan Nawaz scored 76 off 43 to take Gladiators towards an imposing total•PSLFaheem steals the momentumChasing in a final is never easy. In fact, in PSL finals, the highest successful chase had been 175, and that came in the very first edition. In that context, Nawaz’s 76 off 43 was pivotal; not only did he anchor the innings, allowing those around him to chip in with helpful cameos, he did so at an impressive rate.So when a pair of sixes from Dinesh Chandimal at the tail-end of the 17th over took Gladiators up to 170 for 4, and with Nawaz still at the crease, it looked like Qalandars were about to be set a historic target. What was not expected at this point was the next two overs going for just eight runs, and Gladiators losing four wickets in the process – including that of Nawaz. Suddenly, from eyeing a total of at least 200, even 190 seemed a stretch.Enter Faheem. It took the most ill-advised of singles to get him on strike – Khurram Shahzad was barely in the screen when the throw from midwicket missed the stumps – but once he got there, he could hardly have made more of it. Six, four, six, six went the next four balls as Faheem catapulted Gladiators beyond 200, before holing out off the last ball.Naeem gives yet another fast startThe secret sauce to Qalandars’ season has been the carefree, joyous nature of their play, somehow managing to eschew game state and more often than not string together the exact performance needed. On Sunday, that approach was put to the ultimate test. But if there was ever any doubt about Qalandars feeling the nerves, that was quickly put to rest, ironically, with a helping hand from Faheem. Having struck 23 off that final over, Faheem proceeded to give away each one of those 23 runs in the third over as Naeem’s hat-trick of sixes jump-started Qalandars’ chase. That 23-run over would prove crucial in keeping Qalandars within touching distance as Amir at the other end was at his miserly best, giving away just 12 runs off his first two overs. It meant Qalandars were restricted to 56 runs in the powerplay.Kusal Perera goes big•AFP/Getty ImagesPerera’s star turn trumps AmirGladiators edged Qalandars by a single run in the powerplay, but it was in the middle overs that they really stretched their advantage – 98 to 87. It meant that for Qalandars to win, they would have to strike heavily at the death, a tough task, particularly with Amir still with two overs.Amir has been destructive and economical all at once this PSL, and it was no different in the final. After going wicketless in his opening two overs, he returned at the death to get rid of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, just as Qalandars were building up a head of steam. It was, therefore, inevitable that Qalandars would at some point need to take on Amir. And with the required run rate creeping beyond 15, they did just that. The first blows of counterattack came from a likely jet-lagged Raza, as he thumped a four and a six off the first two balls faced to end Amir’s third. Then, in the penultimate over of the game, it was Perera’s turn, and he too obliged with a four-six combo.Perera might have been parachuted in for just the tail-end of this tournament, but in the four games he played, he certainly made the most of his opportunities. He saved his best for last, taking on Gladiators’ other two most economical options in Shahzad and Abrar Ahmed before finally turning his attention on Amir.

Ruben Amorim reveals who puts him under most pressure as Man Utd boss admits it's 'good to hear' Sir Jim Ratcliffe's public backing

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has welcomed the public backing he recently received from co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in spite of the team's ragged results this season. The Portuguese claimed he already felt supported by the club's hierarchy even after losing four of United's opening eight games in all competitions. And he revealed the person who puts him under the most pressure.

Amorim still enjoys Ratcliffe backing

While pundits such as Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney were fiercely critical of Amorim's management in the wake of the 3-1 defeat by Brentford last month and called on him to be removed from his post, Ratcliffe declared last week that he fully supported the coach. Speaking to The Business podcast by , the billionaire admitted Amorim "has not had the best of seasons" but insisted that the Portuguese coach "needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years". The message of support came a week before United face arch rivals and Premier League champions Liverpool and Amorim said he appreciated it, even if he already knew that the club's big decision makers such as Ratcliffe, sporting director Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada were already behind him.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportAmorim: Good to hear Ratcliffe backs me

Amorim told a press conference on Friday: "He tells me all the time, sometimes with a message after games but you know I know and Jim knows that football is not like that. The most important thing in football is the next game. You cannot control the next day. But it is really good to hear that. But also because of the noise. Omar and Jason tell me that all the time. First of all I can feel it, it is not just that thing that people say, I feel it every day."

Amorim: I put the most pressure on myself

The coach then declared that he puts more pressure on himself than anyone at the club. And while he appreciated the support from the club hierarchy, he was keen to avoid the impression that he was not in a hurry to improve United's fortunes. "Sometimes the pressure I put on the team and myself is so much bigger. I know it is going to take a while," he said.

"It is really good to hear that. I think it helps our fans to understand that leadership know it is going to take a while. But at the same time I don’t like that because I don’t want that feeling in our club that we have time to sort things out. We need to prove in football and at big clubs that every week we are ready to win games."

United have not won away to Liverpool in the last 10 seasons although they are unbeaten in their last two visits to Anfield. The Red Devils produced an impressive performance to draw 2-2 in January, with Harry Maguire missing a last-gasp chance to snatch victory. The display came amid a terrible run of results from United and prompted Amorim to declare he was "upset" that his side could not produce the same level of performance in other games.

Amorim said his team tend to perform against better opponents because the pressure is off but he also acknowledged that was not a sustainable way of approaching games. He said: "Maybe the expectations, when you have to win and the responsibility of winning it is so much harder. When you play in big clubs, you need to win every game. We have difficulties some times to play with that responsibility. Maybe when Manchester United are not expected to win, it is easier for the players to perform but we need to change that.

"I know it is special for our club. I know they are competing for a number of titles. It is one more game we need to prove again that we are playing better. We need to be better in both boxes. It's one more game that we need to win."

Liverpool are in their worst run of form under Arne Slot after losing their last three matches. However, they have not lost at Anfield in the league since September 2024. United, meanwhile, have not won a Premier League away match since beating Leicester in March.

Falamos do assunto e vamos tentar ajudá-lo.

A torcida decidiu apoiar no meio dessa situação difícil e estamos agradecidos.

DISPOSIÇÃO PARA JOGAR ONDE FOR PRECISO

PSICOLÓGICO DO ELENCO

Vim aqui tentar jogar, seja 90 ou 10 minutos, sempre à disposição do time.

Man Utd in stick or twist situation with Ruben Amorim

External pressure in football has been heightened drastically over recent years due to the rise of social media, though there is a clear debate to be had about whether a managerial change at Old Trafford is necessary after a poor Manchester United run of form under Amorim.

The former Sporting boss has delivered 19 victories, nine draws and 21 losses in charge of the Red Devils, averaging 1.35 points per game in the Premier League.

Only two wins have arrived for Amorim this season without the added strain of having to juggle both European and domestic football, with the lowlight being a dismal loss to Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup.

Wayne Rooney clarified he has ‘no faith’ in Manchester United turning things around. However, INEOS have decided to keep their man in the dugout for the time being, offering a stay and a chance to change public perception after a rocky start to 2025/26.

Conversely, Sir Jim Ratcliffe may already be plotting a change in the background amid Gareth Southgate being contacted by the Red Devils as an alternative to Amorim.

Over the coming weeks, expect more out-of-work bosses to be linked to the Old Trafford cauldron as speculation continues to grow on what happens next. For now, nothing is concrete, though the Red Devils have a dilemma on their hands.

Either way, Manchester United will be focused on improving results, albeit not everyone is convinced Amorim is the right man to kickstart that process.

Alan Shearer dissects Ruben Amorim's situation at Manchester United

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Alan Shearer said Manchester United don’t want to admit they’ve made a mistake in hiring Amorim, hence why he thinks they haven’t already moved to relieve him of his duties.

He stated: “I genuinely believe that the owners or the people that are running the club at the minute have made that many errors in the last two years or 18 months since they’ve been there. It would look terrible to admit another error and sack (Amorim).”

Amorim was a promising appointment when he came in last year, though down the line, many would argue Manchester United haven’t shown any signs of improvement and still regularly cough up inconsistent results.

In his defence, he did take the Red Devils to the Europa League final, progressing past the likes of Lyon and Real Sociedad, but fell at the final hurdle and missed out on Champions League qualification.

For now, he remains and the support will back Amorim to rescue Manchester United from despair. Nevertheless, he is walking on thin ice, something that Shearer has indicated could be costly.

'He's a vaccine for any illness' – Aaron, Moody in awe of Bumrah

“He’s like an antidote, a vaccine that can cure any illness, which a bowling side can have.”That’s Varun Aaron describing Jasprit Bumrah after the Mumbai Indians (MI) seamer produced figures of 1 for 27 in his team’s win against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2025 Eliminator. Bumrah conceded only 6.75 per over in a game where the run rate across 40 overs was 11.20.”If you want wickets, he comes and gets you wickets. If you want to stop runs, he stops runs for you. Man, what a bowler,” Aaron said on ESPNcricinfo’s Time Out. “And the belief he has in his ability. You have an international coach [Mahela Jayawardene] who is obviously panicking because his bowlers have suddenly started to go to the cleaners, and he just turns around and is like ‘just calm down, I’ll do the job for you’. Comes in, runs in, gets hit for a six and then gets .”Related

The ball Aaron was talking about was the yorker Bumrah produced in the 14th over of the chase to flatten Washington Sundar’s leg stump and leave him face-down on the floor. At the time, Washington was well-set on a 23-ball 48 and, in B Sai Sudharsan’s company, on course to chase 229 down. But the dismissal, in a four-run over, made GT’s chances of a win plummet from 41.82% to 23.31% on ESPNcricinfo’s Forecaster. Apart from being a contender for ball of the tournament, it was a moment from which GT never really recovered.”For him to bowl from that angle is really difficult,” Aaron said. “It’s easier for him to go wide to a left-hand batter but for him to actually target that leg stump of Washington Sundar… Washy was setting up for something wide or something in his arc, but that was just impossible to negotiate.”4:00

How should a batter face Bumrah?

Bumrah’s latest spell left him at the top of the charts for best economy and best average in IPL 2025 (min. five overs). Despite playing four games fewer than the rest of his MI team-mates, he is No. 6 on the wicket-takers’ chart too. While Hardik Pandya called him a “luxury” at the post-match chat on Friday evening, Tom Moody opted for “pure class”.”The challenge every opposition has to Mumbai Indians, and Jasprit Bumrah more importantly, is that the 24 balls he bowls are such a threat,” Moody said. “It’s not impossible but it’s so difficult to get big overs against him. So you’re really playing 20 overs versus 16 to a certain extent. And he is so far ahead of the rest, it’s ridiculous.”The thing with Bumrah is that he’s got that genuine wicket-taking ability just through his pure class. That yorker he bowled to Washington Sundar, you just don’t bowl a better ball than that. That is the absolute perfect leg-stump yorker that’s gone between his legs. At pace. To a batter that’s in. Set.”You see that quite often with a new batter because they still haven’t picked up the pace of the game. This is a batter that’s in and he’s going at 200 strike rate. It just totally blew him away.”
